1925-1950: Nordic Avant-Garde in its European Context

The inter-war period has, unfortunately, become increasingly relevant for cultural and European studies today, since it seems to offer parallels to the current refugee problems, nationalism and internal European conflicts. This conference offers highlights from the second volume of the series of Cultural History of the Avant-Garde in the Nordic Countries (4 volumes published by Brill) that point out the importance of the European networks to Nordic artists in this period, the transnationalism that is an inseparable ingredient of the avant-garde movements and the attempts to bridge the gap between international/cosmopolitan attitudes  and national interests.

Participation is free of charge. However, registration is required.
