Social media and elections in Central and Eastern Europe

Lecture by Anamaria Dutceac Segesten, Senior Lecturer in European Studies at Lund University

How do political actors in Central and Eastern Europe use social media during elections and how do citizens from this part of Europe react/interact with these campaign messages? This lecture will provide an overview of the academic research in this domain, touching upon the representation of gender and the nation in social media content, and bringing empirical examples from Poland, Czech Republic, Hungary and Romania.
