Author Meets Critics

The end of the Cold War is often seen as the beginning of a new, stable world order based on democracy, free global markets, and international cooperation. Yet, after a decade of crises, the order isunder pressure, and its future looksuncertain.

This Authors Meets Critics invites two of the leading scholars of the liberal international order to examine the role of Europe in the “third liberal international order” in light of their new book  “Rethinking the 1990s –Liberal World Order-Building in the Aftermath of the Cold War” which examines the making of this order and its development in the 1990s and beyond. It offers an opportunity to explore the historical factors behind the current crumbling of the liberal international world order, seen from a European vantage point.

Senior Researcher Rasmus Søndergaard (DIIS) and Professor Maria Mälksoo (University of Copenhagen) will join as discussants of the book.
